Summary: A Guitar Teachers Choice
Comment: Well I've been teaching and playing for a long time and this is the acoustic guitar I've always recommended. It's tough and doesn't cost so much you'll get scared to taking it anywhere to play. It's nicely built so it will be fairly easy to play. Sometime soon you'll need to get some new strings - so get them nice a light so they are easeir to play - go for 11's on the 1st string - you'll see this marked up on the string pack when you're buying - these will be marked light or super light - they make it easier to press the strings down when learning. Also a nice light pick (something like .43 mm) will ensure you strum and pick without digging in. You can go to a thicker plectrum (.73 medium) later when you can play better. And read the instructions on the tuner pack - these cheaper tuners are a bugger to use well on the first tuning, but once in tune they are easy to keep in tune.

Trust me, this is the acoustic to learn on - a well known manufacturer - well constructed (they make hundreds of thousands of these to sell all over the World) - and a nice playing action. Put some heavier bluegrass strings on it once you can play well and you've got a great guitar for a party or the beach; the knock-about guitar to compliment the expensive one you'll get sometime in the future.

Get a Steve Kaufman or Russ Barenberg Beginning Bluegrass Guitar (Guitar Books) beginners book or DVD on playing bluegrass to get you started -Steve Kaufman: Learning to Flatpick, Vol. 1 - From the Beginning [1995] (REGION 1) (NTSC) that way you'll have some intersting stuff to play and avoid books with Twinkle Twinkle or Jingle Bells. Once you can play a few chords and pick out a melody you can move on....Have a listen to Tony Rice if you want to hear what that style is like played very well.Unit of Measure Forget the sytle - this will get you playing anything. It's good stuff to get started on and you'll be playing proper songs that aren't an embarrassment.

Summary: Great for beginners
Comment: I am an absolute beginner to guitars. I had been planning to buy and learn how to play a guitar for ages, but kept postponing. Recently a friend of mine bought one of these packs and highly recommended it. I immediately ordered one for myself and I am quite pleased that I did it, but a bit annoyed at the same time as just after a week, the price has come down by £10.

My greatest fear was being unable to tune it, but with the electronic tuner that it comes with, tuning the guitar is a breeze. The guitar itself is good looking and seems durable.

The CD that comes with the guitar was quite useful. However, in order to do some proper learning, you either need some classes or some more instruction material.

I am quite happy that I am at least taking steps towards crossing one thing from my list of "things to do before I am 40".

Summary: Good Beginners Guitar, But...
Comment: As a Guitar Tutor for many years I can honestly say that every time a new pupil comes to me for Guitar Lessons carrying a Yamaha F310 I'm always very pleased. And I have no problem in awarding these little beginners Guitars the full five stars. But let me make clear to everyone as I do to all new pupils who come to me, that although these are a very good beginners Guitars, that is all they really are, nothing more, nothing less.
It has been my experience that anyone still stuck with one of these Guitars after a year or two, then that pupil has not really made proper progress in their learning of the Guitar. These Guitars really will help get you off the ground, but if you are truly serious about progressing properly on the Guitar then you should think very seriously about up-grading to a real solid-wood guitar when you come to see that you are really beginning to become more of a player then a beginner which these Guitars are solely designed for. Most good pupils with me tend to move up to the real thing within 6 months after taking their first lesson with these Guitars, and I am always delighted with that because it means that even they can see that they are starting to make real progress and that the time has now come to move up to the real thing.
As I said at the start of my review, I have no problem awarding the full five stars to these beginners Guitars, but please keep in mind that they can never be looked upon as your long-term Guitar, not if you are truly serious about learning and progressing properly on the Guitar.
Also keep in mind that if you look after your F310 well and keep it in good shape then you'll find that it'll be very easy to sell it off to someone else who is just about to take their first lesson.
So My Verdict is... A Great Little Beginners Guitar, But that's all they are, nothing more, nothing less. So Good Luck To All You New Beginners.
Rod, N. Ireland.

Summary: Great Value For Money
Comment: On receiving this through the post, I was amazed how stunning the guitar itself is. Quite simply you could just display the guitar in your living room and get many envious looks from your friends without actually playing it. However, the guitar's true brilliance shines through when you sit down and start to learn the basics from the DVD provided - the sound is quite amazing. The DVD is simple to use and, even better, simple to help you get up and running.
In fact, all the items are great for a beginner - the case is simple but effective, and lets you carry the guitar like a rucksack (not sure how practical that would be to get through doors though) or carry the guitar normally using the hand strap. The tuner is easy to use and makes it easy to tune your guitar yourself using the lED indicators to help you find the right tension. The spare strings are classical strings which may not be everyone's cup of tea, but may come in handy. The plectrums are simple, but effective. The stand is excellent and really does help to show off the true beauty of the guitar itself and has a handy rubber strap to hold the guitar securely in place.

All in all, great value for money, much cheaper than elsewhere and highly recommended.
