Summary: Good Hardware
Comment: I bought this product only a couple of months ago. Yes I realise that I am about 3 years behind the times, but it seemed to have all the features, looked stylish and impressive. So I shed out the cash, I received it and was pleasantly surprised. Nice colourful screen, camera that's fun and not bad for a portable device, Bluetooth and nice tablet style screen movement.
Only thing I couldn't get to work no matter how hard I tried was the Wi-Fi. I have read a lot about it on forums and so forth and have not really found a definitive answer, but the problem is quite a regular occurrence (something to do with the hardware), but this is not a problem for me, but should be looked into by people needing Wi-Fi.
The other problem is software, when it comes it has about a couple of useful programs, but nothing like Excel or Word, so you need to look around for these things. But unfortunately this means opening your wallet again which you may not want to do. I would recommend if you like watching videos "TCPMP" for Palm. It plays many codecs and generally acts as a media player, best of all its free.
All in all, it has a good build and good hardware (apart from Wi-Fi). But the supplied software isn't too great.

Summary: Clie Ux-50
Comment: I bought my Clie Ux-50 about a year ago and I love it. I used to have an ipaq and I liked that too. The Clie thought is so much more stylish and has a lot more features. The built in wireless card works perfectly as does the Bluetooth. The only down side is the lack of programs. When I bought my ipaq it come with word, excel, messenger, etc already on it and you can easily download Microsoft money and pocket streets which unfortunately you can't do with the Clie. You can buy software that does the same stuff but you have to pay I have found. Since looking around I have found some wonderful software that fills all of my needs and more. The Bluetooth is very useful for when it comes synchronising with you computer. Te Bluetooth is also useful for reading your txt messages when you phone is in your pocket and you don't want to get caught by your lecturer (I'm a student).
The camera on the UX-50 is really useful to just take pictures they are perfectly good quality for a portable device not that it would replace a digital camera but is useful if you have it in your pocket. I have a Sony digital camera and it works well being able to take the memory stick out and just put it into your Clie and view your pictures on a bigger screen. The UX-50 does come with a lot of useful software such as the sms reader and the picture viewing utilities. The only problem i have had with the camera is that i can't find a way to view the video's I record on a PC, mind you the pictures work perfectly as you'd expect.
An excellent buy

Summary: Correction to review above
Comment: The reviewer above states that the UX50 only accepts Sony pro memory sticks, so I, like others, ordered one with my organiser. In fact the Lexar standard (and cheap) memory stick from my old organiser works fine.
The screen and keyboard are all I hoped. The cradle is a bit cumbersome, and does not offer the facility to re-charge directly into the unit, as did my old Clié.
I'm still finding my way around all of its functions, but felt this should be corrected.

Summary: Good - Not Excellent
Comment: As an owner of both an Ipaq H2210 and a UX50, I personally think that the H2210 is superior (Although I understand most of you will disagree with me)
Note that the H2210 is also exactly half the price of the UX50.
The UX50 has a great design, and in general has good performance. It also has a great display, where 'white' really is 'white' and the resolution is high.
There are however many flaws which make me dislike it as a PDA.
Firstly, It has a very slow processor, and to be honest - games really aren't that good on it. I compared 'Warfare Incorporated' on the UX50 and the H2210. It was about ten times smoother on the H2210.
Trying to get its built in Bluetooth to talk to Bluetooth-enabled phones is like trying to draw blood from a stone and, as someone else mentioned, the integrated wireless lan is already outdated.
I feel a strong sense of limitation when using the UX50. It only accepts Sony Memory sticks, which are too expensive for my liking. For the same price as a 128MB Memory Stick, I can buy a 256MB Compact Flash card AND a 128Mb MMC card (for my H2210) I'd much prefer it if it accepted Compact Flash cards, like other Sony Cliés.
The camera is very poor; the camera on my SharpGX20 Mobile phone is superior. There's no point in integrating a camera, if it's useless. The add-on cameras for my H2210 are also superior, in both resolution and quality. Even as a 'toy camera,' it's simply not good enough.
I'm not saying it's a terrible device, I'm just warning people that if you're looking for a Multimedia PDA - DON'T go for the Sony UX50. The UX50 is more of an organiser. If you want to use your PDA for entertainment purposes, look elsewhere.

Summary: Very pleased , seems expensive - but is value for money
Comment: I had to upgrade my Clie to a UX-50 as a result of an accident to my existing NR-70V and all other Clies had been withdrawn and I concerned about reviews that I'd read about this model (battery life etc) Well , after three weeks of getting used to the UX-50 I have to say that I think this Clie is fantastic and well worth having
True battery life is shorter than my first Palm Pilot ( a month), but then I could not take photographs, record video, transfer data between the Clie and my mobile Z600, play music, games like Monopoly and Agression , and do the usual things like Diary and Addresses.
The user interface is excellent - better than NR70-V one which I had replaced with Facer - but I won't do that for the UX-50
The battery indicator is on the main screen , there is a pop-up clock , memory card indicator and sound control.
The camera is a step up from the NR-70V with the ability to zoom on the image in the viwer
There is a file viewer included with the Clie but I use Documents to Go and that works well on this model of Clie
The Voice Recorder is fine - good for reminders
The USB port is a bit fiddly when syncing up to the desktop but the flat power cradle is much better than the desk stand ones in previous Clies
And the best bit is that my existing Presenter to Go works with the UX-50 - and for work presentations the Clie is as good as my laptop - and about a tenth of the weight
All in all this is an excellent piece of kit - and I use it for both work and private use
If you need this level of functionality I can recommend this Clie - but do as I have and get the in car charger
